About the Author

Aruna Chakravarti was born in Calcutta, India, in 1945. She joined the Naxalite movement in 1967 and spent a year living and fighting alongside the rebels. After the movement was crushed, Chakravarti was arrested and imprisoned. She was released from prison in 1974 and went on to become a journalist and writer. She is the author of several books, including Year on Fire Mountain, The Naxalite Movement in India, and The Red Sun: Travels in Naxalite India.
